A Prayer Wheel for the Institute
During his visit in 2003, Lama Zopa had advised the Institute to envisage the construction of a great prayer wheel.
Recently Rinpoche was able to give us the dimensions for the prayer wheel. It should be three metres tall and have a diameter of two metres,
which will make it one of the biggest prayer wheels in the world. It will be modelled on the prayer wheels of Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu
and of the Root Institute in Bodghaya. Rinpoche has advised us to place the prayer wheel in an area where people pass by so that as many
people as possible will have the opportunity to turn it.
The Tibetan prayer wheels (called Mani wheels by the Tibetans) are used to spread spiritual wellbeing and blessings.
Traditionally, rolls of manuscripts printed with the mantra Om Mani Padme Houm (the mantra of the Buddha of Compassion) are wrapped
around a central axis. According to Lama Zopa Rinpoche, turning a prayer wheel containing 100 million mantras enables one to obtain
the merit (positive energy), which is equal to having recited 100 million mantras.
Thanks to the microfilms this number of mantras can be greatly multiplied.
Our projected prayer wheel could contain 1000 billion mantras on microfilm!
" … there are so many benefits…. A prayer wheel blesses all the insects that are in the ground and around, without counting all the people who turn it.…
… It is a very great blessing for the whole region!….by turning it only once the benefits created by this are the equal to several years of retreat.
It is an incredible purification, it enables one to create merits that are as infinite as the sky…
… Why? Because we receive the blessing that come from the heart of the Buddha of Compassion.
Thanks to the prayer wheel, compassion for all beings can be developed more rapidly ". (Lama Zopa Rinpoché)
The estimated cost of the prayer wheel is around 120,000 euros. You can help us to create this extremely powerful object,
which will help so many sentient beings to develop their mind and to practise dharma.
You can do this by making a donation at the reception of the Institute, or by sending a cheque made out to IVYES-Projet Moulin à prières
(Institut Vajra Yogini) or by making a donation online through Paypal.
