1 – The Five Lay Precepts<\/strong><\/p>

The Five Lay Precepts are the foundation of ethics for all individuals engaged in performing duties, responsibilities, or actions carried out on behalf of, or in connection with, the FPMT. The five basic rules are: not to kill, not to steal, not to engage in sexual misconduct, not to lie, and not to take intoxicants. Intoxicants include alcohol, soft drugs, and tobacco. <\/p>

2 – No Discrimination<\/strong><\/p>

The FPMT organization does not discriminate in its programs, services, recruitment, volunteer opportunities, or other activities or benefits, based on race, ethnic or national origin, affective or sexual orientation, marital status, age, or disability.<\/p>

3 – No Harassment<\/strong><\/p>

The FPMT is committed to promoting a safe environment where everyone’s dignity is respected. Any person participating in FPMT-related activities must be free from all forms of harassment, whether sexual, intimidation, aggression, or other forms of bullying. Anyone coming into contact with the FPMT network must be treated with dignity and respect. <\/p>

4 – Relationships with Students<\/strong><\/p>

Sexual relations between Dharma teachers and students are prohibited as long as a student is participating in a teaching, course, or retreat with the teacher; they are also strongly discouraged at any other time as long as a teacher-student Dharma relationship persists. Please refer to the specific regulations for Dharma teachers below. Other persons in positions of authority are also strongly discouraged from engaging in a sexual relationship in situations where a power imbalance, real or perceived, may exist. Similarly, no teacher, volunteer, staff member, or other representative of the organizing center shall make sexual advances to any participant during a teaching, course, or retreat. <\/p>

5 – Right Speech<\/strong><\/p>

Those in positions of authority must avoid gossip, harsh, or abusive speech: overheard conversations in which others are disparaged can have a negative impact on those involved in FPMT activities. Harsh or abusive language can also constitute harassment or intimidation. <\/p>

6 – Finances<\/strong><\/p>

All income and expenses of FPMT affiliates must be accounted for according to generally accepted accounting principles. Money that has been donated for a particular project must be used for the project for which it was given, and not for operating expenses or other projects. Income from the sale of Dharma items must be used for Dharma purposes and not for operating expenses. <\/p>

7 – Whistleblower Protection<\/strong><\/p>

If an individual or group believes that a practice or activity within the FPMT organization is illegal and\/or contrary to this Ethical Charter, and expresses their concern to the relevant management level or responsible person, that individual or group must be protected from retaliation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Due to the unique nature of the teacher-student relationship, additional commitments are required from all our teachers, translators, and those in positions of responsibility:<\/strong><\/p>
